Kiss Me Deadly - 1955 - Robert Aldrich
1. The opening- It is pretty interesting way to set off the movie by introducing an event that will contribute to the story after, while the reader have no clue about what happened to the character (Christina). Besides, it is interesting that Christina kept saying "Remember me" to Hammer and made the audience want to continue watching.
2. Ralph Meeker as Hammer- Ralph Meeker played a successful role as Hammar. He demonstrated how violent and corrupt that Hammar is by "repeatedly slams the desk draw on the hand of the corrupt mortuary attendant, or the way he slaps the elderly man at the swimming pool when the old guy doesn’t cough up the information he wants."( Mr. Clarke's website) Ralph also showed how Hammer react to girls by acting as a person "who only takes."
3. The answering machine- The answering machine is a very futuristic tool during the 1950s. By adding the answering machine in the movie, it interest the audiece and made the them want to contnue watching.
4. Velda- The girlfriend of Hammer who loved him so much, but strongly opposed Hammer to continue investigate the mystery of Christina.
5. Bit players- They did well in the movie to against Hammer about his investigation, especially for Gabrielle/Lilly Carver. She is the last one I expect to be against Hammer.
6.More happens off the screen than on- In the movie, there are way more unsolved question then the information it gave us. It is also a good way of expressing the movie that let the audiences use their creativity to make all the things as a whole.
7.Paranoia- this is the paranoia of people's fear about the cold war in 1950s. The fear of nuclear weapon is going to be used in the war .
8.“The great whatsit”- As long as their are people dying to own the object, it showed how precious it is. Dr Soberin's last word made Lilly Carver more desperately to know what is inside the box. Therefore, "the great whatsit" caused more people to die.
